The composition of the gas film seal is the same as that of the ordinary contact mechanical seal. The main difference is that the former uses the fluid dynamic pressure spiral groove opened on the end surface to generate the fluid dynamic and static pressure effects in the rotating state, so that the two The end faces are separated by a stable thin gas film and are in a non-contact operation state. The working principle (see Figure 3-4) is that when the moving ring rotates, the sealed gas is sucked into the spiral groove in the circumferential direction, from the outer diameter to the center, and the radial component flows toward the sealing channel. The sealing weir prevents the gas from flowing to the center, so that the gas It is compressed to increase the pressure, and the gap of the sealing end face is dynamically stabilized and a gas film with a certain thickness is formed. The mechanical seal end face balance gap (film thickness) is generally between 2-10. In this way, the gap between the end surfaces can automatically control the interface opening force Fo and the external closing force Fc to balance, so that the air film has good elasticity (high air film rigidity), forming a stable operation and preventing the sealing end surfaces from contacting each other.
