The principle and function of mechanical seal

Mechanical seals are divided into two types: external and internal:

The main difference between them is that the position of the medium on the sealing surface and the direction of leakage are different. The built-in type bears better force. Since its leakage direction is opposite to the direction of the centrifugal force of the rotating shaft, the leakage is smaller.

The leakage direction of the external type is consistent with the centrifugal force of the rotating shaft, so it is more likely to leak. However, the external spring generally does not contact the medium and can effectively prevent the corrosion of the medium. It is often used for sealing corrosive low-pressure media.
