Technical requirements for mechanical seals

Mechanical seal is an indispensable part of mechanical equipment. It plays an important role in the use effect of the equipment and the sealing effect. Therefore, its technical requirements are also stricter during production.

The sealing ring is the general term for the dynamic ring and the static ring (the same below), which is the main component of the mechanical seal. The sealing ring determines the performance and life of the mechanical seal to a large extent, so some requirements are put forward for it.

1. Sufficient strength and stiffness

It is not damaged under working conditions (such as pressure, temperature and sliding speed, etc.), the deformation should be as small as possible, and the sealing can still be maintained when the working conditions fluctuate. In particular, the sealing end face must have sufficient strength and certain corrosion resistance to ensure a satisfactory service life of the product.

2. Good thermal shock resistance

For this reason, the mechanical sealing material is required to have a high thermal conductivity and a small linear expansion coefficient, so that it will not crack when subjected to thermal shock.

3. Smaller friction coefficient

The matching of the sealing ring should have a small friction coefficient.

4. Good self-lubrication

If dry friction occurs for a short time during work, the sealing end face will not be damaged. Therefore, the sealing ring must have good self-lubricating properties, and the sealing ring material and sealing fluid must also have good wettability.

5. Simple structure

The structure of the sealing ring should be simple and symmetrical, and the overall structure should be given priority. The combined type (such as insert type) sealing ring can also be used, and the spraying type structure of the sealing end face should be avoided as much as possible.

6. The sealing ring should be easy to process and manufacture

The installation and maintenance should be convenient and the price should be low.
