When sintered graphite is directly used as a mechanical seal ring, permeability leakage will occur and the strength will decrease. This is because the sintered graphite volatilizes due to the volatile substances in the binder during the baking process, and the binder polymerizes, disperses and carbonizes, and 10% to 30% of pores appear. The improvement measure is to impregnate it to obtain impermeable graphite products and improve its strength. Carbon graphite can be impregnated with various materials to control its permeability. During impregnation, the nature of the ulcerating agent determines the chemical properties, thermal stability, mechanical strength and usable temperature range of impregnated graphite. At present, the commonly used impregnants are divided into two categories: synthetic resin and metal. Commonly used impregnating resins are phenolic resin, epoxy resin and furan resin. Among them, phenolic resin has good acid resistance, epoxy resin has good alkali resistance, and furan resin has good acid resistance and alkali resistance. It is best to impregnate furan resin carbon graphite ring in these three resins. When the temperature of the sealing ring is less than or equal to 17℃, carbon graphite impregnated with synthetic resin can be selected; when the temperature is greater than 17℃, graphite ring impregnated with metal should be selected, and the melting point of the impregnated metal and the corrosion resistance characteristics of the medium must also be considered.
