Figure 3-8 shows the effect of gasket thickness. The relationship between gasket thickness and leakage rate can be obtained through the test of 104 water pump mechanical seal. The test conditions are as follows: gasket is asbestos rubber sheet XB350; size diameter 146/diameter 115, thickness tu003d1mm, 1.5mm, 2.0mm, 2.5mm, 3.0mm respectively; gasket pressure 47000N; sealing medium is water, pressure 2.842 MPa.

It can be seen from the curve in the figure that under the same pressing force and the same medium pressure, the leakage rate decreases with the increase of the gasket thickness. After t exceeds 1.5mm, the leakage rate does not change much, 〖t exceeds 3mm, the curve tends to a minimum. As we all know, the thicker the gasket, the better the relative elasticity, that is, under the same axial load, the thick gasket has a larger amount of compression and rebound, so it can fully compensate for the medium than a thin gasket with a smaller elastic reserve. The axial displacement between the sealing surfaces caused by the pressure makes the gasket surface retain greater residual compression stress.  483.html,
