Assuming that there are narrow gaps between the sealing surfaces of the fluid seal, the Reynolds number of the fluid flowing in the gap is usually very small, often in the range of laminar flow. There are two kinds of flow in this range: Poiseuilleflow caused by the pressure difference at both ends of the gap (Poiseuilleflow) and shear flow (Couetteflow) caused by the relative motion of the plane. The plane gap flow is the simplest accurate solution of the NS equation. They are all good approximate solutions.
