In the mechanical seal, the auxiliary sealing ring includes the moving ring auxiliary sealing ring and the static ring auxiliary sealing ring, which respectively constitute the seal between the moving ring and the shaft (or sleeve), and the static ring and the gland. Since the sealing ring material has elasticity, it can elastically support the sealing ring, and has a certain compensation and vibration absorption effect for the skew of the sealing end surface and the vibration of the shaft (or sleeve), so the joint degree of the sealing end surface can be improved. After the end face of the seal is worn out, under the action of the spring force, the auxiliary seal ring will make a slight compensation movement along the axial direction with the compensation ring.

Commonly used auxiliary sealing rings in mechanical seals include rubber O-rings, PTFE V-rings, O-rings and wedge-shaped rings.

Rubber O-rings and PTFE V-rings are the first choice as auxiliary sealing components in most occasions, but under some special process conditions, bellows can be used instead. The PTFE bellows used under low pressure and strong corrosion conditions can not only prevent the leakage of the medium along the shaft (or sleeve), but also play the role of the auxiliary sealing ring of the moving ring, and at the same time, it can also separate the spring from the sealed medium. Open to prevent the spring from being corroded by the sealing medium. Because the metal bellows mechanical seal eliminates the need for rubber or plastic seals, it can be used in high and low temperature conditions. The use of rubber bellows as auxiliary seal and elastic element can make the mechanical seal structure simple and compact, easy to install and cheap. It is suitable for low-parameter conditions where the working pressure is not more than 1.5MPa and the temperature is not more than 100°C.
