What are the important parameters of mechanical seal selection?

Every kind of mechanical seal can only function effectively within the specified range. Improper selection of mechanical seal will significantly reduce the sealing performance, shorten the service life, and even fail.

The important parameters of model selection are as follows:

1. Medium pressure P of the sealing chamber:

The medium lubricity is good, when the viscosity is high, P≤0.8MPa choose unbalanced type. When the medium lubricity is poor and the viscosity is low, P≥0.5Mpa.

2. Linear velocity V:

V≤25m/s chooses torsion type. V≥When the speed is 25m/s, the static type is selected.

3. PV value:

The PV value relates to the stability (vaporization) of the fluid film between the sealing surfaces and the wear resistance of the friction pair.

4. Sealing medium temperature T:

In the absence of external cooling, the very high temperature of the mechanical seal generally depends on the safe application temperature of the auxiliary sealing material.
