Installation suggestions and precautions for mechanical seals Preparations before installation and installation precautions Check whether the model and specifications of the mechanical seal to be installed are correct and whether the quality meets the standard. Check whether the components of the mechanical seal are damaged, especially whether the sealing end faces of the moving ring and the static ring are bumped. If damage is found, the mechanical seal must be repaired or replaced with new parts. All sealing elements need to be cleaned with gasoline or kerosene to keep the surface of each element free of dust and foreign matter. Check the surface of the shaft or sleeve of the submerged sewage pump, the inner wall of the sealing cavity, and the inner surface of the sealing end cover for burrs, groove marks, etc. If burrs and groove marks are found, they should be smoothed, polished, and cleaned with gasoline or kerosene to keep them clean. No dust and debris are allowed on the surface. Do not use cloth or cotton gauze with unclean mechanical seals to scrub the surface of the moving ring and static ring, but use clean and soft gauze, absorbent cotton and the like to scrub. Keep clean during the assembly process to ensure that the sealing end faces of the moving ring and the static ring are not scratched or broken. In order to facilitate the installation of people, oil should be applied to the surface of the shaft or sleeve, the mating surface of the gland and the sealing ring during assembly, and the sealing end faces of the moving ring and the static ring should also be coated with oil to avoid dry friction during startup. The impregnated graphite ring should be subjected to a hydrostatic test before installation, and the hydrostatic pressure should not be less than 1.5~2.5 times the working pressure, and there should be no water droplets or sweating on the outer surface of the graphite ring. If the above-mentioned experimental conditions are not available, an assembly static pressure test can be carried out after the seal is installed before the pump is started to identify the pressure resistance of the graphite ring. The anti-rotation groove end of the static ring tail and the top of the anti-rotation pin should maintain an axial clearance of 1~2mm to avoid buffer failure. For mechanical seals with a parallel spring structure, please note that the rotation direction of the spring should be the same as that of the shaft during installation. If the direction is wrong, the seal will fail. For example, the type 103 mechanical seal with a single spring structure is divided into two types: left-hand and right-hand. When installing, pay special attention to the different spring rotation directions of the mechanical seals at the front and rear of the pump. If the direction of rotation of the pump shaft is ignored during installation, the mechanical seal is likely to be installed backwards, making the front and rear mechanical seals ineffective. The piping system connected to the equipment must also be cleaned. If the sundries of the system are not cleaned up in time, after long-term operation, sundries may enter the seal, thereby affecting the life of the seal. The premature failure of the seal of the new equipment is mostly due to this reason, so it is necessary to install a filter at the entrance before the new equipment starts.
