When discussing mechanical seals, the most important thing is to figure out the difference between the various sealing systems. There are three basic types of mechanical seals: fluid-lubricated mechanical seals, gas-lubricated contact mechanical seals, and separated or gas-lubricated non-contact mechanical seals. The difference between these types of mechanical seals is that there is fluid between the sliding surfaces of the fluid-lubricated seals. These seals are usually used in mixers for mixed friction applications. For dry-running seals, the two sliding surfaces and the mechanical seal are in direct contact with each other. On the other hand, for gas-lubricated non-contact mechanical seals, the sliding surfaces of the mechanical shaft seal do not directly contact during operation. There are 1 to 5 μm wide gaps separating the surfaces, which is why this type of hermetic seal is often referred to as a breakaway seal. When talking about gas damping dual seals, there should be this distinction. Below we will only discuss gas-lubricated non-contact mechanical gas seals. How does the gas-lubricated non-contact mechanical seal work? In operation, there should be a gap of only a few micrometers between the two sliding surfaces of the gas-lubricated non-contact mechanical seal. The two sliding surfaces of the contact mechanical seal should be out of contact with each other. In order to achieve this, a three-dimensional groove is made in a ring to ensure that the static and dynamic forces of the air function. The pressure difference at the sealed seal produces an aerostatic effect, while rotation produces an aerodynamic effect. The resulting lift is balanced with the closed force, thereby forming a sealed gap of 1 to 5 μm wide. The use of gas-lubricated non-contact mechanical seals on the mixer has three main advantages for users: 1. No liquid leakage; 2. No impact on product quality; 3. There is little or no effect on the reaction; non-contact mechanical seals also have some other advantages. Including: 1. Clean operation (GMP); 2. Low friction loss; 3. No noise; 4. In terms of pressure applications, non-contact mechanical seals are usually used in vacuum conditions up to 6 bar. Based on many years of experience in the use of liquid lubricated seals by some mechanical seal users, not every product that used liquid seals in the past is suitable for gas seals. The main consideration is to have a high sensitivity to sealing product factors (for example, the sealing surface is bumped). In order to counteract this effect, many additional components have been researched and used, such as the patented flush mounting flange. When the self-aligning characteristics of the sealing surface of the non-contact mechanical seal are degraded, it will automatically switch to gas consumption, and the sealing surface will be blown off or flushed. This flush mounting edge can be used for steel containers, especially for enamel containers (plastic containers). In addition to the experience gained from the application of gas seals, a series of new insights have also been made in storage and use. When the sealing part realizes its first change, many years may have passed between the shipment and the beginning of the use of the sealing part. At the same time, various factors can affect the characteristics of the gas seal. Too much grease or lubricating oil was accidentally added during assembly-grease or lubricating oil entered or penetrated into the sealing gap.
