Explanation of the purpose of mechanical seal with flushing plan

Generally speaking, mechanical seals (especially cartridge mechanical seals) can be equipped with auxiliary systems, but the most suitable flushing scheme should also be selected according to different working conditions.

In terms of flushing, it is to directly inject liquid into the high pressure side of the double-end mechanical seal or single-end mechanical seal. General pumps should be flushed, especially light hydrocarbon pumps.

Let's talk about the purpose of the mechanical seal flushing scheme:

1. Rinse to dissipate heat. The heat generated by the liquid seal must be controlled. This is accomplished by flushing the seal cavity with liquid to remove heat and control temperature rise.

2. Lower the liquid temperature. In some cases, the liquid temperature is so high that it affects the sealing performance. In such cases, the temperature must be lowered to improve the performance of the fluid.

3. Change the seal chamber pressure. In some cases, it is necessary to increase or decrease seal chamber pressure to improve performance. This can be achieved by inhibiting evaporation or reducing the thermal load on the seal.

4. Clean process fluids. If the process liquid contains unsuitable solid particles or contaminants, the liquid in the seal chamber will need to be cleaned. In extreme cases, it may also be necessary to provide clean fluid from outside the seal system.

5. Control the atmospheric side of the seal. As process liquids come into contact with the atmosphere, they may dry out, crystallize or coke. It is very important to prevent interaction with the atmosphere that could adversely affect sealing performance.
