Detection methods and characteristics of mechanical seal leakage

The detection methods and characteristics of mechanical seal leakage The characteristics of mechanical seal leakage detection methods mainly include the following aspects. 1. The principle of leak detection No matter which leak detection method is used, the basic principle must be understood. Leak detection methods, mechanical seals involve a wide range of contents, which collectively reflect various metering and testing techniques. It is not easy to understand the principles of many detection methods in detail. 2. Sensitivity The sensitivity of the leak detection method can be expressed by the minimum leak rate detectable by the method. When choosing a leak detection method, the sensitivity of various methods should be considered, that is, which method can be used to detect which level of leakage rate. For example, when a leak rate of 10-5 cm3/s is to be detected, a method with a sensitivity of 10-2 cm3/s is meaningless. Conversely, when detecting a leak rate of 102cm3/s, a method with a sensitivity of 10-5cm3/s may be feasible in principle, but it may be uneconomical in practice. 3. Response time No matter what method is used, it will take a certain amount of time to detect the leakage rate. The length of response time may affect the accuracy and sensitivity of leak detection. Generally, prolonging the detection time will increase the sensitivity, but if the detection time is too long, the detection accuracy may be reduced due to changes in environmental conditions. The response time includes the response time of the detection instrument itself, the lag time of the gas flow and the time required for various preparations. This must be taken into consideration when choosing a leak detection method. 4. Judgment of the leak point Some leak detection methods can only determine whether the system is leaking, but cannot determine where the leak point is. Some leak detection methods can not only determine the leak point, but also the size of the leak rate. If it is just to find out whether the device is qualified, the former method can be used; when repairing or finding the cause of leakage, the latter method must be used. The latter method may sometimes cause missed inspections. . 5. Consistency For some leak detection methods, the test results obtained are basically the same regardless of whether the tester is skilled or not; some methods are used by insiders and outsiders, and the results are completely different. Where possible, methods that do not require skilled expertise to detect correctly should be used. Each method has different technical keys, and different leak detectors may not be able to obtain consistent leak detection results. 6. Stability leak detection is a comprehensive technology of measurement and testing. If the data obtained by the test is unstable, it is meaningless. Correct leak detection requires not only the stability of the detection instrument, but also the stability of the detection method itself. 7. Reliability does not detect a leak, which does not mean that there is no leak, which should be judged. When using a certain method for leak detection, you should know whether the method is reliable. The reliability of the leak detection results is related to the consistency and stability of the methods described above. 8. Economy Economy is one of the keys to choosing a leak detection method. It is easier to only consider the economics of the leak detection method itself, but it is more difficult to comprehensively evaluate the economics of the leak detection method from the aspects of the required leak detection equipment, the technical literacy of the personnel, and the leak detection results. For example, soapy liquid leak detection is a very economical method. However, this method cannot be used to detect smaller leaks. Therefore, it cannot be used in occasions with higher requirements for leakage. When using expensive helium mass spectrometer leak detectors, many smaller leaks can be detected very quickly. Therefore, it is difficult to say in general terms, which of the above two methods is economical and which is not economical? It can be seen that when choosing a leak detection method, in addition to its economics, sensitivity, response time, and detection requirements must also be considered. Make a comprehensive evaluation to make the selected leak detection method not only meet the leak detection requirements, but also economical and reasonable. Keywords: mechanical seal
